Whatever you think of her politics, buzz about Sarah Palin’s look—which some have called dowdy, outdated and countrified—is lighting up the blogosphere. I wish I could tell you more about who does her makeup or hair (or if she does it herself), but I haven’t found any information on that. (Anyone know?)
But it appears that the VP candidate does buy her own shoes. Fausta’s Blog pointed me to Shoe Fly Alaska, who claim on their Web site that they sold Palin the red peep-toe Naughty Monkey “Double Dare” shoes everyone’s talking about:
Our Governor, Sarah Palin, walks her “buy local” talk… literally in our case. We have been excited to help this busy executive find the shoes she needs and the shoes that spark a gleam in her eye in our little shop. We appreciate and applaud her efforts to support Alaskan business owners in such a simple, direct way.
The shoes are available at Shoe Fly Alaska and also at endless.com for $89.95.
And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen interest in Palin’s shoes. Anchorage Daily News snapped this photo of Gov. Palin’s footwear more than a year ago at a fund-raiser:
This time, she even sported some nail art on her big toenails. How much more Everywoman can you get than nail art? Love the wedge too—it’s a realistic shoe, cute but comfortable.
Yes, she likes the wedge, here in a slide style, which she apparently wears to work, as this photo was taken in her office in Anchorage. (And, uh-oh, was she photographed in the same shoes twice?) Palin’s definitely not afraid to wear comfortable shoes, which is refreshing, especially when I think of all the women who, at this very moment, are walking around New York Fashion Week in 4-inch stilettos. But Palin knows that if you’re going to be on your feet all day (such as at a trade show, in the picture below), comfort is not only acceptable, but appropriate.
And can we seriously talk comfort shoes? I don’t have independent confirmation on this, but Palin looks like she’s indulging in one of my favorite shoes, the Dansko Professional, in the pic below. (Please click to enlarge and give me your opinion on whether you can tell if this is the Dansko Professional.)
OK, maybe they aren’t Danskos (I’m still crossing my fingers, though). But clogs nonetheless:
But when the outfit calls for it, Palin can rock a classic, pointy-toed pump, below. (Though Kodiak Konfidential said at this meet-and-greet, Palin wore both these heels and “some warm-looking boots.” Hey, we can’t fault her for that; it’s Alaska.) I think she wore these again (or very similar ones) on Day 3 of the RNC.
Wonder if the warm-looking boots were anything like the ones she wore in the February 2008 Vogue photo shoot/article (below)…
Why do I care about Sarah Palin’s shoes? I will say, I already know who I’m going to vote for. What the McCains, the Obamas, the Palins and the Bidens wear isn’t going to influence my vote. And yet, Palin’s “middle America” look really rings true. Especially when many female celebrities cultivate an untouchable, pricier-than-thou image, Palin’s dressed-down, realistic look resonates with voters who themselves don’t have thousands in their clothes budget or a stylist on call. Her outfits come off as much more relatable for the average American woman than Cindy McCain’s three-carat diamond earrings and Chanel J12 watch. (On a related note, U.S. women were quick to snatch up the $148 White House/Black Market dress that Michelle Obama wore on The View. So apparently the “relatable” angle works for both sides.)
I’m interested to hear what you think—do you think Sarah Palin’s image helps, hurts or doesn’t affect her campaign?
UPDATE: If you care, Kimora Lee Simmons thinks Palin’s shoes should be “a little more refined.” Simmons also admonishes Palin to “stop jumpin’ on them caribous!” (New York magazine)

I love her, love her shoes, love her clothes, love her religion, I approve.
Sarah Palin is so middle America tha I don’t know how she can’t relate. She doesn’t come from money. She’s not rich. And she has a family that faces the same situations as every familly in the country. I can totally relate to her. Go Sarah Go!!!
I so wish that California could secede from the USA as a whole. She may have ok shoes, but Sarah Palin is representative of many things that are wrong with this country. Way to go repubs, seduce the masses with her outer image. Look beneath the surface and you will see some real bad stuff brewing there, for women and for our global environment. These are not beliefs that will carry us into the future.
Love Sarah and would love to post her photos of her in greatr shoes on our web site, She looks great in pumps and heels!
these shoes are soo beautiful
Sarah Palin not only looks great, but I think she will make a great VP! I`m behind her all the way. Mike Valentine
Sarah Palin is attractive, she has great shoes… so what. Her viewpoints on almost everything in American politics are twisted and certainly the minority view. It’s about time you people woke up and voted based on morality, beliefs and viewpoints. NOT BASED ON WHO IS THE BEST DRESSED. Either come to the polls as a competent individual who knows the facts, or do us all a favor and don’t come at all.
No, I think her views may not be in line with YOURS, but to declare they are the minority view is a bit of a stretch. Those who support her are much more informed than you give them credit for.
Hey, Erin – I live in Nevada (right next to California, in case your US map does NOT include anything to the east of the People’s Republic of California) and I just wanted you to know that your friendly, backwoods, down-home Nevada neighbors wish California would secede, too. Or perhaps to escape the “real bad stuff brewing” you should keep your eyes closed, click your heels three times and repeat this: “there’s no place like socialism” until you are transported far, far away from the real future of America into the global environmentalist future you so desperately desire. With any luck at all, a good strong seismic jolt will split our states at the San Andreas fault and send California floating off into the Pacific where you can live happily ever after on your very own little island. P.S. I”m pretty sure we “repubs” didn’t choose her footwear for her. Shockingly, I think she chooses her shoes and her “outer image” all by her little self.
Sara Palin is a right wing nut, representative of the intolerant religious fanatics that have ruined our Country for the past eight years. Thank God she and McCain are going to loose and we will finally get a Liberal in the White House.
Sarah, I hope your political career is over!
santa claus, learn how to spell. It’s “lose”, not loose. Why all the vitriol? What has Palin said that is so horrible? What, because she’s pro-life? So is more than half of the country, and 50% of American women. Look it up. She represents more than half of the country’s beliefs. And by the way, Bush may have screwed the country up, but at the very least we have not had another terrorist attack. You have to at least give him that.
Oh jane you are sooo blind and extremely uninformed.
Why don’t cha all just shet yer mouths……ya dems and repug finks. Nobody likes any of you……
She’s gorgeous…..her feets r gorgeous, an her whole boddy is gorgeous…..ya either a gay bird or a jelous chickie…..either way she is way more gorgeous than any of ya.
No why don’t cha just get lost…….anybody wit any brains at all is totally in love wit her, and wit her whole way o being…..she is smarter den any of ya punkies…….now beat it.
Go Sarah Palin! Love the shoes, the suits, and oh yeah, the high standard of morals and values you promote. From just another extremely uninformed “repub”.
I love Sarah and she is a breath of fresh air.. its time for a woman to get behind the wheel for once instead of a man for 200 yrs its always been the men running this country… Why cant a woman… if sarah palin / mccain lose I hope she runs for president in 4 yrs.. by that time she wil be knowledgeable in every topic you can think of…. we need a woman in charge for once to get the job done right.. not half assed.. I like Sarah…. Oh yes Im voting for McCain/Palin…I hope they WIN.
:-) JMO
I rather have McCain/Palin in office instead a sweet talker empty suit.. Obama:-|
Hahahahah!!!! You guys say you are so middle America and so not fussy. Yeah I bet you guys didn’t know all those “Real America” suits Palin was wearing cost more then people’s rent. No wonder you guys liked them.
I have been blogging about several different pairs of shoes seen on Sarah Palin lately…

Sarah palin is a cheerleader who cant do 1 interview by herself cause she has no clue about anything but alaska. she is fake and dont really care whats going on as long as she gets her picture taken and she is in the news she is happY. her speeches are the same and not even good. In fact preety funny. She just dont know NOTHING look into the facts. SHE LOVES POWER. How is her husband is in oil and makes over a mill a year . she lies lies lies and lies. so get a new SPEECH writer and try in 8 years
The most important thing I want to start off with is that the love Sarah Palin and her family share is a joy to her, and is obvious to everyone who sees them together! She is absolutely georgous and full of vitality. She does dress more like regular women (the kind who are into clothes without being obsessive or overindulging in their spending habits — at least she did before the RNC started buying her clothes) — practical, kind of sassy at times, and always appropriate. Also her “updoo” was adorable, but businesslike without looking like she spent too much time on it. Here’s the thing with that dear lady though that makes her unsupportable as VP of the U.S.: (1) her extreme religious beliefs (I know we are supposed to be tolerant of others’ personal beliefs, but I want someone who will uphold our great Nation’s tenet of separation of church and state and I’m afraid she won’t; (2) she doesn’t believe in the scientific method (and as we as a Nation are falling farther and farther behind the rest of the world, we need a leader who supports learning, new scientific discovery and technology); (3) she has a cruel streak in her, both in the false witness she bears against Obama by saying he “pals around w/terrorists” knowing full well it is not true, and in that she takes joy in depriving other living creatures of their lives by hunting and killing them; (4) she does not respect the right of personal choice for women.
Love seeing some style on that political stage! The Naughty Monkey Double Dares in tan also won a recent Shoe of the Day award http://www.somanyshoes.com/shoes/naughty-monkey-double-dare/1916
she is so the real deal — we need she and McCain!!!!!!!
Donika, Donika,
You really are in the dark dear sweet child. All Senators, Governors, female politicians and top executives in the corporate world spend top $ on their clothing. You didn’t see Nancy Polisi or Hilary jumping in to attack on this one did you? In fact, Geraldine Ferraro, the last female democratic Vice Presidential Nominee, came to her defense in almost every issue she’s been attacked on. (see Glamour magazine)
Take care sweetheart and read up.

Yes… they are Danskos!!!
She was on Entertainment Tonight wearing them with jeans. She stated that they were handpainted by a friend in Anchorage, AK–and that she wears them for comfort. But I’ll tell ya, the black dansko (handpainted in gold) was ADORABLE! it was the first time I’ve ever liked the Dansko clog… usually I stick to the Dansko sandals.
